Lightspeed Systems began as McCarthy and Associates in 1981 as a group of developers and consultants focused on integrating Wang minicomputers into corporate environments. This was the early days of networking and the focus soon changed from point-to-point integration to connecting systems across networks. The PC was also emerging as the single standard on the desktop and they soon developed a network software product to allow connectivity between Wang systems and PCs. In 1984 they reformed under the name of MacSoft and released Lightspeed NVS.
Lightspeed NVS blossomed into a rich set of tools to integrate Wangs into many types of networks and connect Wangs with many other types of computer systems. By the mid 1990s Lightspeed NVS accounted for more then 60% of the Wang connectivity market. MacSoft decided to change its name to Lightspeed Systems to reflect the fact that its flagship product was now the de-facto industry standard.
Lightspeed Systems expanded into other areas, providing PC network connectivity to Banyan Vines systems, again capturing a majority of the market. Data migration was the next area Lightspeed focused on, providing utilities for the Wang and Banyan markets to move information onto Microsoft and Novell servers. Email was the next target, enabling migration to Microsoft Exchange and offering powerful administration tools to manage Exchange servers and data stores. In each new area Lightspeed quickly established itself as the market leader and gained a reputation as a formidable technical force both in the networking arena and in manipulating data.
During this time Lightspeed Systems started a network consulting group specialising in multi-platform networks. Their consultants have worked with some of the largest organisations and the most complex networks in the world ensuring wildly disparate systems and networks integrate seamlessly. Lightspeed consultants over the years have become some of the most highly respected and sought after in this extremely demanding area.
In 1995 Lightspeed Systems started providing internet access to a few local businesses. With the explosive growth of the web they soon became a fully fledged ISP, with over 20,000 business, schools and government agencies depending on them for daily access to the internet. The demands of managing such a great amount of traffic, the challenges of securing such a large network, and the necessity of providing a safe method of web browsing and protecting against spam forged the basis upon which Total Traffic Control was born.
Lightspeed Systems has now divested itself of all other divisions to concentrate fully on the Total Traffic Control product. Lightspeed currently has around 50 staff working in R&D and Technical Support in Bakersfield, California with sales and marketing staff located around the country. Total Traffic Control is now used by over 1,000 organisations to help over 6,000,000 users get fast and secure networks.
Lightspeed Systems Europe was launched in 2005 to bring Total Traffic Control to the European Market. We are based in the City of London and work with a partner channel to provide sales and support in the UK and throughout Europe.
